The CI(Confucius Institute)is a non-profit educational institution that promotes Chinese language and culture.Since its establishment in 2004,the scale of CI has continued expanding, and the demand for staff has also increased. In order to alleviate the shortage of teachers, the CI has recruited a large number of volunteer Chinese teachers to teach Chinese and promote Chinese culture. The volunteer group has obvious characteristics such as youthful, most of them are graduate students and major in MTCSOL(Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages),lack of social experience and work experience. This paper takes the volunteers of Chinese teachers in the United States as the research object, combining empirical analysis with qualitative interviews, and verifying the cross-cultural adaptation of the group in the United States and the identity to its own role. After discussion,we draw the following conclusions:Firstly, this research verifies the effect of some impact factors of cross-cultural adaptation on the results of cross-cultural adaptation, and finds the correlations of life satisfaction of the volunteers with its extrovert factors, knowledge and skills, language skills, and the social support received.Secondly, this research finds that the identity of volunteers has a correlation with their age, professional background, foreign work experience and some of the above-mentioned impact factors of cross-cultural adaptation;Thirdly, the relationship between cross-cultural adaptation and identity of volunteers has been discussed and verified. The research finds that volunteers with a bias toward "Chinese teachers" have higher life satisfaction and the following interview explains this phenomenon.Fourthly, through the interviews, the volunteers' work in the United States,cross-cultural conflicts, social support and other aspects of the volunteers have been fully displayed,as well as the volunteer group in the United States has a good overall cross-cultural adaptation.
