A Report On Consecutive Interpreting Task Of B2B Matchmaking Of The 12^th EU-China B&T Cooperation Fair

Belt and Road initiative demonstrates the new trend of the world economy,meanwhile the multilateral trade mechanism established by the economic trade belt,with China as the core,radiates many countries.In this context,international economic and trade exchanges have become more and more frequent.Among them,the 12^th EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair(hereinafter referred to as the 12^th Fair),which aims to promote international exchanges and increase trade and commerce,is also in full swing.This report is based on the on-site interpreting project of the 12^th Fair in 2017.The author is employed by YESTRANS,a Chengdu-based translation company which is responsible for the interpreting work of the Fair,as an interpreter for the conference.The on-site interpreting of the project mainly focuses on consecutive interpreting and escort interpreting.This business interpreting report firstly introduces the history and development of the Fair in the context of Belt and Road.It briefly describes the whole process of the author's participation in the interpreting project and the characteristics of business English interpreting.Pre-interpreting preparation stage is mainly divided into three parts:knowledge preparation for interpreting project,theoretical and methodological preparation and other preparation.Among them,knowledge related to interpreting project includes the collection of industry knowledge and client's information,while the theoretical and methodological preparation mainly includes three rules of Skopos Theory and interpreting note-taking method.Under the guidance of three rules?skopos rule,coherence rule,fidelity rule?of Skopos Theory,through the analysis of the cases well chosen by the author,she points out that there are three main difficulties:the first one is the interpreting of Chinese idioms,second one is the interpreting of terminologies,and the third one is the interpreting of English with unfamiliar accent.At the same time,the author adopts interpreting strategies such as domestication,foreignization,omission,paraphrasing,addition and inference to deal with the above problems one by one,so as to accomplish the task smoothly.Later,the author reflected on two aspects,including self-reflection and customers'feedback,especially the discussion of interpreters'professional qualities,hoping to serve as a warning to future English learners.Through the analysis,the author finds that the three rules are applicable to environment of business English interpreting,especially after combining certain interpreting strategies,and can effectively guide the interpreters to solve the problems encountered in the process of interpreting.It is hoped that this paper can provide a reference for guiding business English interpreting activities.
