Translation Report On Chapter 4 Of Literary Englands:Versions Of "Englishness" In Modern Writing

This is a translation practice report.The translation material is selected from the book Literary Englands:Versions of "Englishness" in Modern Writing,Chapter 4"Late witness:George Sturt and village England".This chapter is a literary critical text,which mainly analyzes the representative works of George Sturt and village England,clarifying the "Englishness" in his works and village England,and introducing views of a critic,F.R.Leavis.This text involves a lot of information about English literature,of which the language is objective,the information clear,and the literariness strong.There are certain difficulties for the translator;therefore,it is meaningful to do a translation practice on the text.Besides,this practice may provide a reference for readers,such as students majoring in English literature.The report consists of five chapters.Chapter one is an overview of the translation task,which mainly describes the translation practice task,the features of the source text,and the objectives and significance of the translation practice.Chapter two describes the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation procedure,and proofreading after translation.Chapter three is about the introduction to the theory,introducing Verschueren’s adaptation theory and its applicability and translation strategies adopted under the theory.Chapter four discusses analysis of cases,in which the translator talks about major difficulties encountered by her in translation and combines the translation skills such as part-of-speech conversion and voice conversion,making an analysis of examples of the key and difficult points in the process of translation according to the contextual adaptation strategy and structural adaptation strategy under the adaptation theory.Chapter five is the conclusion of the translation practice,including the experience and enlightenment gained by the translator from the practice and some unsolved problems.Through the translation practice,the translator has a deeper understanding of the guiding significance of the theory but also lays the foundation for the translation practice of relevant types of text in the future by combining theory with practice.
