With the increasing process of globalization, cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries are also becoming increasingly closer.Museums are important platforms of cultural exchange and thus the translation quality of their materials is directly related to the effect of cultural exchange. However, museum texts have simple style, strong professionalism and flexible layout, which bring some challenges to translators. Therefore, the study of C-E translation of museum texts has certain guiding significance and practical value for similar translation practice. From October 2017 to November 2018,the author participated in the English translation practice of Shanxi Museum texts which included Collision and Fusion — The Great Wall Culture Exhibition,Pyramid·House of Eternity — A Special Exhibition of Ancient Egyptian Civilization,Achievement Exhibition of Shanxi Public Security Organs' Combat Against Cultural Relics Crimes and other 9 texts. The thesis is based on the problem of distinguishing the primary and secondary information of phrases and sentences in the process of C-E translation. In writing this report, the author has a better understanding of the primary and secondary information through access to documents.Furthermore, the author, adopting exemplification and contrast analysis, analyzes the shortcomings of the original translation by comparing it with the revised translation as well as relating to the differences between the Chinese and English language structures. Then on the basis of reflection and summary, the author puts forward effective solutions. It is expected that the thesis can provide reference for the translation of similar museum texts and the author can make her own contributions to Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges.A total of five chapters are included in the thesis.Chapter One is an introduction in which the author briefly presents the background, researchsignificance and research content of this thesis.Chapter Two is the process of the task and in this chapter, the author mainly reviews the pre-translation preparation, translation process and post-translation correction. In Chapter Three the author sets out the cases of unduly distinguishing the primary and secondary information of phrases and sentences respectively. The author analyses four cases, namely the loss of main information, the addition of redundant information, the weakening of main information and the enhancement of secondary information. In Chapter Four, the author presents the solutions, which include the further understanding for the texts, the enhancement of the expression and the flexible application of translation methods.Chapter Five is a summary in which the author reviews and concludes the improvement and shortcomings in the process of the C-E translation of museum texts.
