This translation report is based on Lao She's short stories as translation materials,and two of them,I Heard A Story and Mrs.Wang's Grandsons are mainly discussed here.Fiction is the essence of our daily lives.Lao She is a well-acknowledged writer with so many excellent short stories,and most of them such as Rickshaw Boy and Four Generations in One House are closely related to social lives and the features of the time.The author tried to explore some relatively independent and carefree ones from Lao She's works.The fiction I Heard A Story mainly narrates the story about Mr.Meng that “I” heard from Old Song.Mr.Meng could do nothing but still got promoted again and again.And the fiction Mrs.Wang's Grandsons is a story about Mrs.Wang's eagerness for a grandson.Both the experienced old lady and the mother of the maternal showed the influence of feudalistic superstition which led to the death of both the newly born baby and the maternal …During the translation process,the author had noticed the that the cultureloaded expressions emerged frequently in chosen translation materials.Thus the author chose their English translation strategies as the study subject and planned to have a further discussion in this paper.This paper summaries and focuses on the selection of translation strategies of Chinese culture-loaded expressions by some typical examples.Then the author illustrates the English translation strategies of culture-loaded expressions.This report includes five chapters.The author mainly discusses the meaning of modern translation practices,its requirement for translators and the unique style of Lao She in Chapter 1.Then in Chapter 2,the author introduces the process of preparation – practice – paper.Chapter 3 shows an overview of the culture-loaded expressions.The author first introduces the definition and classification of culture-loaded expressions,then summaries the culture-loaded expressions in two of Lao She's short stories.Chapter 4 discusses the English translation strategies of culture-loaded expressions: transliteration,free translation and literal translation.Chapter 5 is conclusion.And the Appendix part shows the original text and the translation by the author.
