Science and technology is the primary productive force, which has had a profound impact on people’s way of life and production. With the intensification of globalization, the cooperation and exchanges between different countries in various fields are more and more extensive. The exchange of science and technology is an important aspect of them.It is increasingly urgent for people to read and learn scientific and technological literature.Functional equivalence theory was put forward by American linguist Eugene A.Nida in 1969.The core concept of Nida’s theory is "functional equivalence".The so-called "functional equivalence" means that translation does not seek superficial rigid correspondence of words, but achieves functional equivalence between two languages, and strives to reproduce in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source language message. This translation practice report takes excerpts from research papers on human recognition technology based on computer vision as the research object. This practice report is a scientific and technological text, which has a large number of professional words and terms.Guided by the theory of functional equivalence, the translator use literal translation, free translation, transliteration, word conversion, division, and other translation skills in the translation process to make the translation natural and fluent, and make the reading experience of the receptor language readers roughly the same as that of the source language readers.Based on the above research, the author believes that functional equivalence theory provides effective guidance for the translation of scientific and technological texts, solves the difficulties encountered in the process of translation, improves the quality of the target text, enables the target readers to fully understand the scientific principles and the author’s views expounded in the source text, and achieves the important purpose of scientific and technological texts, namely spreading and exchanging advanced scientific information. The reason for choosing functional equivalence theory lies in that with its continuous development,it has a crucial guiding function in guaranteeing and enhancing translation quality of EST.This report provides some experience and reference for the translation of scientific and technological texts.
