With the rapid development of science and technology, more and more technology companies release new products through launch events, which not only enable consumers to obtain first-hand information about new products as soon as possible, but also expand the range of targeted audience and improve the efficiency of publicity. This report takes Huawei P40 Global Online Launch Event as the object to study the influence of extra-linguistic knowledge(ELK)on the interpretation process under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model, and puts forward relevant coping strategies. In the process of translation, knowledge for language(KL)may sometimes be overemphasized and the accumulation of ELK is ignored. In fact, they complement each other and they are indispensable.Especially in interpretation without text reference and requiring timely response, the ELK can make up for the deficiency in KL to a great extent.Without sufficient ELK,it is difficult to achieve accurate and professional interpretation only by KL,especially in the interpretation of scientific and technological texts discussed in this report. Therefore, the report focuses on the influence of ELK on the interpretation of scientific and technological texts with the purpose of highlighting the importance of ELK.In this report,Section one introduces the general situation of this launch event and the significance of this task.Section two displays the previous domestic and foreign researches on Gile’s Effort Model and ELK.Section three describes the whole process of consecutive interpreting from three aspects: pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting process and post-interpreting evaluation. In Section four, under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model,by comparing the gap between the target text and the official text, the report analyzes the influence of ELK on the interpretation from the positive and negative aspects,so as to learn from the successful experience, summarize the failure, and provide a more systematic and detailed reference for the future interpretation. In Section five, guided by the Interpretation Comprehension Equation and Gile’s Effort Model,I put forward five coping strategies, including improving the ability of listening and comprehension, making full use of on-site information, expanding the collecting range of professional knowledge, reasonable energy allocation and note-taking training.Section six is the summary of the report, which summarizes the whole process of simulated interpretation practice, and lists the findings and gains in pre-interpreting preparation, interpreting and case analysis.Combined with the current authoritative interpretation research cases and real interpretation environment, the shortcomings of the report are also listed.I hope it will be helpful to the future interpreting practice. |
