Vocabulary is a basic component of language.If there is a lack of vocabulary,language expression will not be achieved.Therefore,the amount of the vocabulary of students will directly affect the development of their ability of listening,speaking,reading and writing,and the accumulation of a large number of vocabularies will help the students to use it comprehensively.This is especially important in high school education.In addition,the new curriculum standards have new requirements.The requirement of the student's vocabulary volume is changed to about 3000 words and phrases.Faced with new challenges and requirements,the author first conducts a survey on to understand the questions and challenges that high school teachers and students have to face in the process of vocabulary learning and teaching.The results are as follows:1.Most students believe that memorizing new words meaning is the most difficult,and that pronunciation and spelling are not too difficult.2.Most students believe that the use of pictures,short sentences and short stories contribute to vocabulary learning.3.Teachers attach great importance to vocabulary teaching.Words and usages cannot be separated from the specific context,so the situational teaching method will help solve the dilemma of high school vocabulary teaching.Based on the actual situation and theoretical research,this paper conducted a teaching experiment in two classes in order to find out whether the situational teaching method can improve the memory and application ability of the students' vocabulary.Through the experiment,the author wants to find out the following questions.First,which is more efficient in vocabulary teaching,situational teaching method or the traditional one?Second,how can high school teachers apply situational teaching method to vocabulary teaching efficiently?In the research,questionnaires,interviews,and tests are used to collect data in the study,followed by SPSS software for data analysis.The experiment result shows:1.Applying situational teaching method when teaching vocabulary is useful for students to memorize the Chinese meaning of the word.2.The use of situational teaching methods can make students more actively in the use of vocabulary.3.It can help students to form a good learning habit.4.Situational teaching methods can increase students' interest in English.
