An English Translation Report On "Planning And Construction For Tourism Culture Of Mindong New District"

The translation project “Planning and Construction for Tourism Culture of Mingdong New District” was authorized by the Management Council of Mingdong New District,Meishan Municipal People's Government.It mainly introduces the development,construction and investment promotion projects of the new district,and publicizes its tourism culture.The author translated the project with foreignization and domestication strategy and took Transn iCAT as the computer-assisted software.The translation practice is meaningful,through which the author has managed to promote the tourism culture,regional characteristics,and developing constructing projects of the new district,and to attract foreign investment and accelerate the development of the local economy.This report is composed of seven parts: Introduction,Task Description,Translation Process,Difficulty Analysis,Theoretical Basis,Case Study,and Conclusion.Introduction centers on the source of the practice project,reasons to select the title,research questions,significances and methods.Task Description introduces the source of the translation project,the type and characteristics of the original text,and requirements of the clients;Translation Process mainly presents the pre-translation(the preparation of the assisted tools,the selection of translation strategies,formulation of termbase,translation schedules,quality control scheme,and emergency plans),translation process(the implementation of the translation schedules and ways to deal with emergencies),and post-translational processing(the quality control after translation,task arrangement of proofreading and the specific steps of the proofreading);Difficulty Analysis summarizes the major difficulties of the translation practice from three grammatical levels: lexical,sentence,and paragraph level;Theoretical Basis studies foreignization and domestication strategy respectively,and the methods of translating the publicity material under domestication and foreignization strategy;Case Study systematically analyzes how to resolve these difficulties with the translation strategies and methods from the three levels;Conclusion sums up the major points that have studied in this report,analyzes the abilities a translator should possess,and puts forward some disadvantages of the report.In a word,the author studies which strategy to choose between foreignization and domestication and what method to use in translating the document.She verifies that foreignization and domestication complement with each other rather than isolate from one another.This report analyzes how to resolve difficulties in the practice under foreignization and domestication strategy so as to achieve the goal of the original author and satisfy the expectation of target readers.The translator studies and resolves the translation difficulties by case analysis,and puts a series of translation methods into practice,such as literal translation,free translation,substitution,transliteration plus explanation,annotation,merging,amplification,omission,inversion,division,voice transformation,selected translation,edited translation,and translation plus explanation.
