As there are more and more international communications and activities in China, the living standard of Chinese people achieving rapid growth with making them pursue higher life goal,so people increasingly attach importance to health and diets.Since western food has become a part of daily life,Chinese people are eager to know more about western food cooking.Under such circumstances, the translation of recipes serves as a bridge for western food cooking. We need to find an appropriate method of recipe translation to satisfy the pursuit of new lifestyle. As we have found, most of previous research is focused on menu translation,Chinese food translation, food and culture, and differences between Chinese and western menus, while few studies are on the western food recipe translation. This translation report is on the basis of Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease for Dummies, and the author took charge of the translation of chapters 16-18,the Heart Healthy Recipes, including the references, cooking method, recipes and the copyright. The translation needs to follow the source language from the aspect of meanings and to follow the target language from the aspect of expression. This report, based on communicative translation and semantic translation and three text types put forward by Peter Newmark, studies the strategies adapting to recipe translation from syntactic or lexical level.According to the study, communicative and semantic translation could not make sense alone. These two methods can be applied according to different text types. So the theory aims to analyze how to choose appropriate method to translate different text types in the cookbook.
