Guided by Peter Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation, two short stories“ The State” by Tommy Orange and “Seeing Ershadi” by Nicole Krauss respectively are selected from The New Yorker recommended by the supervisor. The genre of translation of practical texts is short story.Orange's works are passionate, bold and novel, and the plot jumps.Krauss is good at a large number of descriptions of psychological activities. It is difficult to grasp the emotional context of the protagonist if he does not read and interpret it many times in translation. All this adds to the complexity of translation. In the process of translation, the translator should not only maximize the original content, preserve the language structure, but also consider the target language readers' thinking mode and reading habits, and make logical adjustments. Therefore,Peter Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation are chosen as the theoretical guidance, and an analytical approach from content to logic is adopted to ensure the integration of cultural and situational contexts in the process of translation.During the translation, the methods of part of speech conversion, sentence pattern reorganization, cohesion and coherence are studied.Through this translation practice,I am well aware of the importance of the combination of theory and practice in translation.Under the guidance of theory, practice has directionality in works, and within practice, theory can be further applied and perfected.
