Foreign countries have a higher tolerance for left-handedness,and more students write with left-handedness.After observing the writing habits of the students in Confucius Institute of Pernambuco University,Brazil, this paper raises the question of whether handedness affects the Chinese characters writing.By means of experiment and handwriting psychological analysis, the time of right-handed and left-handed handwriting is measured. In general,right-handed native speakers of Portuguese write basic strokes faster, while left-handed ones used less time to write "abandoned" strokes on average. With the increase of learning time, the advantage of left-handed students may write strokes faster. This may because the left-handed students are more interested in Chinese character writing and they spend more time on practicing characters.Another proper reason is that the left-handed Chinese learners can quickly connect the parts responsible for body and space in their right brain, which improves their work efficiency.Comparing how left-handed and right-handed writing the Chinese characters with the same components and different structures,we can find that: 1.Chinese characters written by left-handed are larger.2.Chinese characters with upper and lower structures written by right-handed are more compact.3.When left-handed copy the Chinese characters with the left-right structure, the distance between components is more appropriate. After collecting students notes and homework,we can find that the main errors of left-handedness are: 1.The lack of strokes, which is more serious than the phenomenon of multiple strokes.2.Too long or too short strokes.3.Confusions of strokes which mainly exist in “horizontal, skimming, lifting and pointless”.4.Part errors.5.The confusions of similar Chinese characters. The confusions of crosswise strokes are typical problems for left-handed students, and there is a tendency of fossilization for that.Comparing the writing differences of different handedness with the writing generation model proposed by Van Galen,we can see that right-handedness has less confusion erring errors, and right-handedness has advantages in the font selection module.Right-handed are better than left-handed in speed and accuracy. They have advantages in muscle control module. There is lateralization in Chinese character writing processing, and there is some truth in the motion execution module of the writing model. On this basis, four suggestions for teaching Chinese characters are put forward.1.All students are equally treated.Students who are right-handed and right-handed are strictly required to write strokes and Chinese characters in a standardized manner.2.when encountering cross strokes, the relationship between strokes should be explained.3.Increase the usage of "Mi" and "Gong" fonts, and skillfully use colored pens and dotted lines.4.Emphasize the details of Chinese characters to left-handed students, while develop their learning habits when teaching right-handed students.
