The Impact Of Subjectivity In Liaison Interpretation On Interpreting Strategy Selection

Interpreting,practically as time-honored as human's civilization,plays an important part in the promotion of the civilization advancement.Nowadays,its functionality of language-barrier elimination has been spreading into intercultural communication in the context of globalization.However,despite its increasing importance,subjectivity of interpreters has yet to earn deserved recognition.Conversely,interpreters are rigidly required to convey information accurately,faithfully and loyally,and be invisible and neutral.However,these unrealistic requirements often betray the real-life interpreting practices.In particular,it is almost impossible for liaison interpreters to achieve these goals.The report analyzes characteristics of subjectivity and impact of interpreters' subjectivity on interpreting strategy selection.First,the report will unfold the preparation for and the process of the interpreting practice,including introduction of interlocutors of both parties,the interpretation preparation as well as the profile of the interpreter.Second,key theoretical concepts will be discussed.The author will analyze subjectivity of interpreters,its characteristics,and impact of subjectivity on interpreting strategy selection.Third,all theoretical concepts will be analyzed under the framework of a case study.Lastly,according to analyses,the author will present the report's major findings,limitations and implications,as well as some suggestions for inexperienced interpreters.Liaison interpretation is characterized by high flexibility and subjectivity of interpreters.They as middlemen are expected to participate in the conversations and cooperate with interlocutors to build up a smooth intercultural communication,during which subjectivity of interpreters is a key to a successful intercultural communication,for it exerts great influence on interpreting strategy selection.
