The translation text used in this practice report is the translation materials completed in accordance with the requirements of the College’s Master of Translation Practice. The source language text, written jointly by several data protection experts commissioned by the Swedish Enterprise Confederation,is a scientific and technological text with such features as strong in expertise, clear in logic, and informative in content. In addition, attributive clauses are frequently used in the text.A total of 173 attributive clauses in the original text have been found, which boast complex sentence structure, sophisticated logic, and long modifying elements, thus posing great challenges to translation task. Therefore, the author has decided to conduct an in-depth analysis and attentive exploration on the translation methods of attributive clauses in this practical report.Adopting the case study approach, the report selects some attributive clauses from the translation material as typical example sentences, and analyzes them with reference to the translation principles and methods proposed by domestic authoritative scholars. The author has summarized four methods for translating attributive clauses into Chinese that are suitable for this translation practice project, namely, translating them into prepositive attributes, parallel clauses, adverbial clauses, and simple sentences. When dealing with attributive clauses, the translator must pay attention to the context of the clause, and flexibly choose translation methods based on the context,so as to ensure the accuracy and smoothness of the translated text. The author hopes that this practice report can provide some reference for scientific and technological translators.
