The Functional Equivalence theory has gradually matured due to its long-term development since its introduction in the 1960 s,providing a strong theoretical support for translation practice.Scientific texts are typical informational texts, and Functional Equivalence translation emphasizes the transmission of information and language communication in the translation process. Therefore,it is necessary, feasible and operable to study the problems and translation strategies in scientific text translation with the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory in aspect of the theory itself or the characteristics of scientific texts.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory, this article takes the Chinese translation of the scientific literature “Intrinsic and Extrinsic Factors Drive Ontogeny of Early-Life At-Sea Behaviour in a Marine Top Predator” as an example from lexical equivalence, sentences equivalence, and paragraph equivalence, analyzes the typical cases in the translation process, summarizes the problems in the process of translation and proofreading process, thus proposing some corresponding solutions.During the translation process, the author carried out a detailed analysis of translation practice in terms of word meaning extension and word class conversion, pronoun reduction and conjunction conversion strategy, subject change and adverbial strategy, and causality explicitness strategy.Through this effort, the author aims to improve the accuracy and proficiency of text translation in this field, thus providing reference for future scientific translation.
