Ever closer global ties and the development of transportation have rendered overseas travel more accessible.Countries and regions around the globe,as the witnesses of China’s ever growing potential as a market for promoting outbound tourism,are endeavoring to attract more Chinese tourists.Under this circumstance,various foreign companies and institutions came to China to meet with Chinese enterprises,especially travel agencies with the purpose of tapping China’s tourism market.That is why B2 B meetings on tourism in China have emerged.These meetings serve as a significant platform for representatives from different sides to learn about each other and seek opportunities for business cooperation.Due to the language barrier that representatives from different countries may face,interpreters play an indispensable role in keeping the meeting moving forward in a smooth and effective manner.Therefore,it is of great importance to deliver high-quality interpreting in B2 B meetings.One of the most noticeable features of B2 B meetings is the existence of similar content in parallel sessions of one meeting,meaning that the main speaker needs to cover similar content when talking to representatives from different companies in different sessions of the meeting.That also provides favorable conditions for interpreters to improve interpreting quality during the task.This report takes a B2 B meeting on tourism during Brand USA China Mission 2018 in Guangzhou as the material for analysis,covering both E-C and C-E interpreting.The report is divided into six parts.The first part is an introduction of the report.The second part is an overview of the background,features,and schedule of the task.The third part introduces pre-task preparation and the measures taken by the interpreter during the task.The former one includes information searching,glossary classification,style familiarization,and emergency precaution,while the latter covers such aspects as making use of the brochures at hand,searching information during breaks,communicating with speaks,and using the context.With the rating scale devised by Yang(杨承淑2000:160),the fourth part grades the interpreting quality of similar content in different sessions of the meeting from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives and analyzes the development trend of the interpreting quality in different sessions.Based on that,the relationship between interpreting quality and the measures taken before and during the task is thoroughly explored.The fifth part is discussion.The author points out several possible measures that can help to improve interpreting quality in B2B meetings on tourism,including introducing corpus technology and enhancing user education to improve preparation efficiency.The sixth part is conclusion,in which a brief summary of the report is made.By analyzing the development of interpreting quality of similar content in different sessions of a B2 B meeting and exploring the relationship between production quality improvement and the measures taken before and during the task,the report aims to achieve two objectives.First,spot problems in pre-task preparation and find solutions accordingly.Second,spot problems during the task and explore effective measures to cope with them.In this way,this dissertation can help interpreters to improve production quality in B2 B meetings and other interpreting scenarios alike.
