Global Education for Canadians, published by the Study Group on Global Education in November 2017,has comparatively analyzed Canada's backwardness in promoting global education and convincingly demonstrated that studying abroad is of vital public good.It has warned that the government, educational institutions, the private sector and other stakeholders all have the essential roles to play to implement the national strategy. This Report is the English-Chinese translation and typesetting task of Global Education for Canadians. This Report has conducted the task in three steps, before, during and after translation. In the pre-translation process, the author highlighted the importance of using computer-aided translation tools, search tools, and word processing tools, and illustrated how to pre-edit the source text for a better transability;in the translation process, the author explained how translation methods are used in dealing with the lexical and syntactic difficulties, including the translation of proper nouns, nominalization, sentences with passive voice and with complex structure, with some case studies based on Newmark's communicative translation theory;in the post-translation process, the author described the necessary wording and format editing for meeting the requirements of the client. The significance of the Report lies in the referential value both in the information conveyed by the source text and in the communicative translation strategy applicable to the informative text.On the one hand,China shall seize the opportunities of global education by the light of Canada's gains and losses. On the other hand, the peer translators may benefit from the author's reflection in translating informative text under the guidance of communicative translation theory, and may be encouraged to keep upgrading themselves in terms of the “soft powers” of translation like employing computer-aided translation tools, search, word processing and typesetting tools.
