Jiangling(??)is a thousand-year-old county with a long history, during the Warring States Period, there was a town called Jiangling near the Jinan. So the place names of Jiangling should be originated in the Warring States Period.Jiangling County of Qin(?)and Han(?)Dynasties was actually developed from Jiangling City of Chu(?)State. After occupying Ying(?),Qin set up Nan County(??).Jiangling was the governing office of Nan County in the Western Han DynastyThis paper is divided into three chapters.Firstly, through the analysis of Ying town site and its surrounding relics of Qin and Han Dynasty, eliminating the interference of modern architecture as far as possible, restoring the natural landforms of this area at that time. The lakes in the north of Ying town did not hinder the development of this area during the Qin and Han Dynasties, and many evidences show that Ying town in the Qin and Han Dynasties was closer to the Yangtze River than it is now. These can be used as the basis for the study of the natural geography of Jiangling County in Qin and Han Dynasties. And combining the handed down documents with unearthed documents,to make a brief comb of the origin of Jiangling place names and the evolution of Jiangling administrative region. The place names in Jiangling area have undergone a series of changes, such as Ying(?),Zhugong(??),Jiangling(??)and Jingzhou(??).Ying lost its status as the capital of Chu because of the migration of the State of Chu.Zhugong gradually became the literary image used by later scholars in nostalgia for the ancients. The place names of Jiangling have been retained for a long time and have not been changed since Qin Dynasty. In terms of geographic space, the central cities in Jiangling area also experienced the transformation from Jinan City to Ying town and then to Jingzhou City.Ying town is a compulsory new town built for political purposes after Jinan City was abandoned. With the increase of population and the southward migration of the main channel of the Yangtze River, the traffic and economic center of gravity changed, and the status of Ying town was gradually replaced, and finally declined after the completion of Jingzhou City.Ying town,as a county government in Jiangling County, was prosperous and abandoned because of the transfer of county government. The last chapter mainly introduces the relationship between Ying town ruins and Jiangling and Ying counties. This paper discusses the existence period of Ying County and Ying town's natural abandonment in order to restore the process of change. The third chapter mainly introduces the spatial form of Jiangling County in Qin and Han Dynasties by analyzing the distribution of tombs and sites around the same period, and explores its core and peripheral areas.
