Over the past years, progress has been made in the going global of Chinese culture and Chinese films have become an important window for the world to know about China. However, the promotion of Chinese films across the world is still faced with huge challenges. The poor subtitle translation is blamed for the limitation of numbers exported and few popularity among western audience.Besides, domestic researches about subtitle translation still mainly focus on English films and few efforts have been put into exported Chinese films. The thesis attempts to make a case study of the subtitle translation of Youth from the perspective of the three-dimensional transformations principle of eco-translatology by means of qualitative method. It probes into the difficulties facing the translators and reveals how the translators balance these constraints. It also discusses if the translators' performance contributes to maintaining the harmony of the translational eco-environment of Youth and accords with the proposals of eco-tranlatology.The analysis sheds some light on subtitle translation and helps subtitle translators better apply eco-translatology to their future work so as to produce a well-received English version. The thesis draws the following conclusions:(1)The translators are confronted with problems mainly arising from the lack of equivalence of two languages and the constraints of time and space on subtitle translation.(2)The subtitle translation of Youth maintains the harmony and balance of the translational eco-environment and complies with eco-translatology.(3)Translators should make active efforts to adapt themselves to the translational eco-environment and make adaptive selection to balance the constraints on subtitle translation so that they can produce a translated version with a high degree of selection and adaptation and contribute to the promotion of Chinese films and Chinese culture across the world.
