Consecutive interpreting is a rather complicated process, which involves many parts.A variety of skills are needed to deliver a good performance, one of which is note-taking.Despite the fact that it has been generally accepted by interpreters that note-taking is an indispensable part of consecutive interpreting, the real problem is how to improve one's note-taking skills so as to help with the delivery. This is the main objective of this thesis. This thesis believes that in order to improve one's note-taking skills, the notes taken down must be effective and logical. In this connection, some models can be applied. In this thesis the author basically draws on two models, namely the triangle model put forward by Danica Seleskovitch emphasizing de-verbalization and the memory model put forward by Lu Xinchao emphasizing logic,to compare two versions of notes taken down by the author himself to demonstrate what really matters in note-taking and how to improve note-taking skills. The author concludes that in order to be better at note-taking,one is advised to follow three principles, which are to be meaning-oriented,to be flexible in quantity and to be logical in memory and notes. |
