A Case Study Of English Translation Strategies Of Female Features In Speak,the Room

Date for this research consist of Chinese typical feminist Lin Bai and her work Speak,the Room,who is one of the representatives of "personalized writing" and "female writing".Lin Bai is famous for her unique feminist language and characteristic,which succeed in describing the rich female inner world deeply and delicately.As far as the material selected in this paper is concerned,the female protagonists pursue autonomy,self-sufficiency,and self-realization in Speak,the Room.From the perspective of feminist studies,this thesis makes a detailed analysis of the translation of Speak,the Room.Through a text analysis,this thesis aims to discuss the application of feminist translation strategies,especially in feminist literary works.To begin with,the author points out the background and significance of this research form the perspective of feminism translation.Then,on the basis of three rules of skopos,the author discusses the main translation strategies of feminism works,including supplementing,footnoting,hijacking and appropriation and makes a choice between different versions of translation.At last,this thesis makes a brief conclusion about the translation strategies when doing the feminism practice.To convey the contents of feminism works better,the translator should adopt different translation skills to achieve it.At first,with the guidance of skopos rule,the author adopts the strategy: footnoting to describe the inner world of female and some female-featured words Secondly,with the guidance of coherence rule,the translation works should not be aimlessly as the same as the original text and should be seen as a concession of the original text.Thus,the author recommends supplementing and hijacking when translating the feminism works.In addition,with the guidance of loyalty,the author adopts adaptation when discussing the culture value of traditional female so as to eliminate the cultural differences and make coordinate with the relationship of the participants of translating.Through text analysis,this thesis tries to prove that the application of feminist translation theories could improve translator's gender consciousness,thus vividly presenting female figure and identity depicted in the original text.In the end,the author makes a conclusion of the whole thesis that in translating feminist works,translators should understand western feminist translation theories,give up some radical views on translation and use reasonable translation strategies to convey the original meaning better.
