In recent years, with the implementation of “bringing in” and “going out”strategy,a large number of excellent online open courses of famous universities abroad have been introduced into China and won high popularity among the public.Due to the gap between languages,Chinese audiences need to use Chinese subtitles to understand the contents of these online open courses. Therefore, the subtitle translation of online open course has also become an important field of translation.Based on the practice of subtitle translation of the fine arts online open course,Gazing into Past, the author summarizes typical problems encountered in the translation process, including 1)inadequate information for proper noun translation;2)problems in retaining idiomatic expressions;3)problems in contextual coherence and logic;4)mistranslation of terminologies.Under the guidance of Hans J.Vermeer's three rules of Skopostheorie, namely Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, the author proposes specific translation techniques by using parallel text research and qualitative analysis. To this end,the author adopts techniques like annotation, replacement, adjustment of word order and addition to cope with the above difficulties.Through the summary and analysis of this practice report, the author hopes that this report can provide some reference and suggestions for future subtitle translation practice of online open courses, especially the fine arts online open courses.
