A Report On The Interpretation Of 2018 Xiamen Area Of China (Fujian) Free Trade Zone Innovation Development Opportunities Presentation Session

The year 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up.After 40 years’reform,China has emerged as a country on the rise.China’s development provides a successful experience and offers a bright prospect for other developing countries as they strive for modernization,representing a great contribution to the progress of human civilization.As President Xi said at the BRICS Xiamen Summit,“the development of Xiamen is an epitome of China’s reform and opening up”.Being one of the earliest special economic zones in China,Xiamen is at the forefront of China’s reform and opening up endeavor,and enjoys the reputation of“a beautiful garden city of innovation and entrepreneurship”.The 20th China International Fair for Investment and Trade（CIFIT）was successfully held in Xiamen from September 8^thh to September 11^th,2018.Under the theme of“implementing new development concepts,integrating the Belt and Road,and promoting two-way investment”,a series of activities initiated.Since the establishment of China（Fujian）Pilot Free Trade Zone,it has carried forward the development orientation of“based on both sides of the Taiwan Strait,docking the‘the Belt and Road’,facing the whole world,serving the whole country”.As an important session of CIFIT,Xiamen Area of China（Fujian）Free Trade Zone Innovation Development Opportunities Presentation Session has been held for 3 years consecutively,which provides a good platform for Xiamen to attract domestic and foreign investment.The author worked as the C-E consecutive interpreter of 2018 Xiamen Area of China（Fujian）Free Trade Zone Innovation Development Opportunities Presentation Session.Based on the first-hand interpreting experience in this session,this practice report makes comprehensive record,analysis and summary of the task from pre-interpretation preparations,case analysis,and post-interpretation reflection.Major difficulties that aroused during the interpreting process are identified and divided into four categories at lexical,syntactical,textual,and cultural level for analysis.Enlightened by the interpretive theory of translation proposed by the Institute of Superior Interpretation and Translation,the author employs four interpretation strategies“deverbalization”,“cognitive complement”,“information simplification”and“logic integration”comprehensively,so as to tackle the difficulties emerged.This paper discusses the specific application of the interpretive theory of translation and relevant interpretation strategies in conference interpretation,in order to help interpreters to deal with these difficulties freely and give full play to the role of interpreters as the bridge of communication.It is of certain reference value to improve interpreters’professional ability and provide implications for similar interpreting practices in the future.
