This report is based on the translation of the second and the third chapter of Research on the Development of Changchun Xinglong Free Trade Zone,a doctoral dissertation written in Chinese by Xu Wei,a PhD candidate in School of International Economics of Jilin University. The research is of great significance not only to the development of Changchun Xinglong Free Trade Zone but also to that of Jilin province. The source text possesses some typical Chinese lexical features and syntactic features. The former features are reflected in frequent use of terminology and the use of expressions with Chinese characteristics and the latter use of active sentences, use of run-on sentences and use of sentences with no subject.Such features are entirely different from those of the English language, which results in such problems in the C-E translation as nonequivalence of sentence constituents, covert logic, different sentence structures and the translation of expressions with Chinese characteristics. The author figured out the solutions, namely amplification, reorganization, conversion of voice, and explanatory translation on the basis of the functional equivalence theory and the "Five Nos" principle for C-E translation. The author does hope the translation can be informative for those foreigners who are interested in the free trade zone and the report can offer some constructive help and enlightenment to other translators.
