A Study On Self-Esteem And Psychological Entitlement Correlates In Young Students: Psychological Entitlement Scale Development And Locus Of Control As A Mediator

This study focus on establish a Psychological Entitlement Scale.After that,we will assess the psychological entitlement of young students by our new scale,and examine the relationship between self-esteem and psychological entitlement with locus of control as a mediator.First,we collected several qualitative data by questionnaires and interview.Then,we use these materials made a new Psychological Entitlement Scale.Afterward,we measured psychological entitlement of college students and senior high school students,951 data was reclaimed.We found these following results.(1)Psychological entitlement could have two potential facets: entitlement pursuing,characterized by expectation of positive outcome obtain,and duty avoiding,characterized by expectation of negative outcome avoid.(2)The individual has low self-esteem can have high psychological entitlement,mainly demonstrate on high duty avoiding tendency.(3)The psychological entitlement level of young students is not high,the score of entitlement pursuing slightly higher than the score of duty avoiding.(4)Male students' tendency of psychological entitlement is higher than female students on both facets of psychological entitlement.(5)The score on duty avoiding of unhealthy students is higher than healthy students.(6)The students come from wealthy family got higher score on entitlement pursuing than the students come from normal family.(7)The students of higher social class have more entitlement pursuing than the students of other social class.(8)Internal control enhances the positive impact of self-esteem on entitlement pursuing.(9)External control-powerful others,chance-decreases the positive impact of self-esteem on entitlement pursuing,and enhances the negative impact of self-esteem on duty avoiding.Taken together,in this study,we presented a Psychological Entitlement Scale,tested its reliability and validity,and established a new psychological entitlement theory.In the end,we build a model demonstrate the influence of self-esteem on psychological entitlement with locus of control as a mediator.
