Information from countries with non-English as the mother tongue is also presented in English, the most widely used language worldwide. The book Israel: An Introduction is an example, but its English-Chinese translation ran into problems with proper nouns of Hebrew or Israeli culture, because there is no standard for E-C translation on non-English proper nouns. This paper, from the view of translator's subjectivity and the general rules of culture-loaded proper nouns translation, studies cases from the translation practice of a part of the book, and then concludes the main points on the E-C translation on culture-loaded words. The translator's subjectivity is applied to do self-assessment on proper nouns translation since the research on the translator as the subject started after the cultural turn in the late twenties century, and that Chinese research on the subjectivity usually focuses on the famous translators or the published translations instead of the translating process from the view of the translator.Philosophical analysis on translator's subjectivity is followed in this paper to discuss the initiative, passivity and purpose of the translator as the subject in translation.Besides, traditions on proper noun translation including adaptation to original names, established rules by popular usage and name after property are considered, and the rules on the translation of culture-loaded words, including to maximally deliver the culture to targeted readers and to let the readers well understand the original culture, are also considered.Based on the above theories, this report moves to the analysis of the examples in the translation project and gives the translator's reasons for choosing specific strategies in translating different proper nouns. The conclusion is given in the last chapter. On the basis of the literature review and the case study above, qualitative analysis is given. The translator's subjectivity in choosing the E-C translation strategies of non-English proper nouns is first of all directed by the established rules of popular usage and the requirement of delivering information effectively.Translation methods can be used alone or combined based on the specific situation, and the knowledge of a third language and culture is helpful in translating its cultural-loaded words in English form.
