Today's society is under the trend of globalization and internationalization.English,as a tool of communication and cultural carrier,has gain more and more attention from the country and the people.The “Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards:2011 Edition” puts that the overall goal of the English course in compulsory education is to enable students to form a preliminary comprehensive command of language through English learning,to promote mind and intelligence development and improve comprehensive humanistic qualities.Meanwhile primary school students are in the critical period of language learning,how to effectively promote students' ability to acquire knowledge of English and how to improve it is an extremely important topic.Drama in education's(DIE)application in primary school English classroom teaching is in line with the concept of new curriculum reform,it is conducive to the practice of English curriculum standard requirements,it is also in line with the age characteristics of primary school students and can improve the current situation of primary school English teaching.After consulted a large number of literature,it was found that teaching in primary school English classrooms through DIE can theoretically promote the development of pupil's comprehensive command of English language.But whether it is true or not,a rigorous scientific verification must be made.The research mainly focuses on the following two questions:(1)Whether the application of DIE in primary school English class can improve pupil's comprehensive command of English language?(2)Which strategies are helpful for the effective use of DIE in primary school English teaching?To solve these two problems,the teaching design of DIE was carried out and the corresponding questionnaire and test questions were prepared.The possible influence of the use of DIE in primary school English classes is corresponded to the English coursegoal classification standard one by one,and the two dimensions of “ knowledge and skill ” and “ emotional attitude ” of the questionnaire are determined.The test consists of four dimensions: listening,speaking,reading and writing.The main research tools are questionnaire and test.And it is supplemented by observation methods,the author will do the experimental research on improving pupil's comprehensive command of English language by DIE.Firstly,it is determined that the experimental group and the control group have the same baseline before the experiment.After the experiment,the collected questionnaire and test data are logged in SPSS23.0 software for analysis.The results of the post-test questionnaire data analysis show that under the “knowledge and skill”dimension,“pupils understand the English pronunciation including stress,liaison,intonation,rhythm,pause,etc.”,“ they can perform shot stories or improvisations with the help of teachers”,under the “emotional attitude” dimension,“ they dare to speak English and actively use English”,there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group;the results of post-test data analysis showed that there are significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in the dimensions of “listening”,“writing” and “speaking”.The final conclusion is that the use of DIE in primary school English class teaching can improve pupil's comprehensive command of English language.Through careful analysis of the experimental results,it is found that the listening materials,listening time and listening purpose will have an impact on “listening”;the speaking materials and speaking time will have an impact on “speaking”;the time and duration of participation in the performance will have an impact on the“performance”;whether the writing activities are set according to the needs of the teaching content will have an impact on the“writing”;students' interest in teaching content and the opportunities to participate in activities will have an impact on“emotional attitudes”.In order to carry out the concept of “Compulsory Education English Curriculum Standards” thoroughly and improve pupil's comprehensive command of English language,make the following suggestions:1.Schools can carry out DIE school-based curriculum design;2.The curriculum design of DIE should focus on continuity and integration;3.Teachers should choose the materials with prominent pronunciation and intonation for DIE teaching;4.Teachers should focus on using drama materials to develop pupil's comprehensive command of English language;5.Teachers should change their teaching ideas and create more opportunities for students to learnindependently;6.Drama performance should be included in the form of homework,student's homework form;7.Appropriately increase the listening and speaking time in condition that the overall time unchanged.
