The report is based on the translation practice of biographical memoir Live Long and… What I Learned Along the Way written by Star Trek legend and veteran author William Shatner who discusses the meaning of life,finding value in work,and living well whatever your age.He arrived at one simple rule for living a long and good life: don't die.“It's the only one-size-fits-all advice”,Shatner argues in Live Long and… What I Learned Along the Way,“because everyone has a unique life”.But,to help us all out,he's more than willing to share stories from his unique life.With a combination of pithy humor and thoughtful vulnerability,Shatner lays out his journey from childhood to peak stardom and all the bumps in the road.The book Live Long and… What I Learned Along the Way is endowed with authenticity and literariness.In terms of expressiveness,the language of the book is simple and vivid,which is easy to be understood by the translator.So the key and difficulty of the translation report is how to present a natural,accurate and vivid translation text to arouse the target readers' reading interest under the semantic translation and communicative translation.The method of case study is applied in the thesis.The relevant words and phrases,sentence patterns and rhetoric are collected and analyzed by adopting Newmark's translation theory of semantic translation and communicative translation.Based on the translation practice and theoretical study,the main problems and difficulties are studied in the report with specific examples and the corresponding translation methods are put forward.Besides,the major findings,limitations,and suggestions on future translation are shared in the latter part of the report.And the translator hopes it could make some contribution to the translation career of books on memoir.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 33...
