In a politically unified and culturally prosperous Han Dynasty, funeral culture was all the rage and became an important part of the art of the Han Dynasty. The popularity of stone tombs gives birth to the rise of stone carving culture, and more and more people begin to decorate patterns on portrait stones to enrich tomb art.As the "cultural treasure" of the Han Dynasty, craftsmen depict all kinds of themes and patterns in limited areas.with the continuous development of funeral customs, the themes and themes on the portrait stone are also different according to the local social customs and living habits.Among the tomb stone carvings in the Eastern Han Dynasty,WuLiang Temple was identified as the representative of the stone carvings in JiaXiang area of ShanDong Province in the Eastern Han Dynasty because of its unique style and complete stone carvings. As the only ancestral hall in Wu's cemetery that can be completely restored,WuLiang Temple stands out among the four tombs. Not only that,it is also the only relatively complete ancestral hall preserved in the second century AD.The walls of the ancestral temple are carved with various relief portraits, laying the foundation for the research value of this etiquette building. This deep-buried "Millennium ancestral Hall" has been excavated, restored and studied by scholars, giving this ancestral hall extraordinary significance. As a comprehensive art of painting, inscription, sculpture and architecture,WuLiang Shrine has been favored by scholars at home and abroad since it was excavated, and there have been many research texts of excellent scholars.Due to different academic backgrounds and research angles, there are many similarities and differences in research viewpoints among different scholars.this paper selects the research texts of two representative scholars(Professor Wu Hung and Professor Martin powers)in the same period as the object to describe the characteristics of the academic perspective of the two texts. And from the two scholars' academic position, research characteristics, visual form characteristics and the ideological behind the stone carvings to make a comparative analysis of the two texts. This paper attempts to find the clues of researchers' different ideologies, research methods and text descriptions behind different texts, and to reveal how WuLiang Shrine is analyzed, interpreted and interpreted from different perspectives,so as to see through the complexity of the artistic characteristics of WuLiang Shrine.
