As China’s fast growth in the foreign exchange industry, translation practicefocusing on the fields of foreign exchange industry cannot satisfy the growingdemands of high-quality translation text. Although professional translation andinterpretation has a growing share in this market, the service quality is far fromsatisfaction.The translation material is selected from one chapter of the book Trading Code,named Seven Deadly Trading Sins, which mainly introduced seven trading habitstraders should avoid. The translation of foreign exchange terms is the core of thewhole text. However, the translation of foreign exchange terms is not easy, because onone hand, it requires functional equivalence of linguistic and foreign exchange text,and on the other hand, some terms lack their matching words or phrase in targetlanguage. The Theory of Functional Equivalence is of great theoretical significance inguiding the intercultural translation of foreign exchange text.This report mainly consists of four articles, the task description, the processdescription, case analysis and the summary of the practice. The task description andtranslation procedure give an overall view of this task, including the requirements andevaluation of the clients, the introduction of translation text, task preparation, detailsof the procedure, follow-up details after translation, etc. The third article is the centralpart of this translation practice report. First of all, this report introduced the Theory ofFunctional Equivalence, which stressed that translators may reorganize the textualform and semantic structure in accordance with the meaning and spirit of the sourcelanguage, rather than language structure or formal equivalence. Based on the typicalsentences of English version of Seven Deadly Trading Sins, this thesis discussed theproblems that arise in this task, which are ambiguity lexical translation, improperusage of words and obscure expressions. Under the guidance of the Theory ofFunctional Equivalence, the author probes into the translation strategies of foreignexchange terms in accordance with the above problems. Together with the characteristics of foreign exchange terms, liberal translation and borrowing translationare the mainly translation methods that are used in this task. |
