A Report On The Translation Of Nominalization Structure In MAIB Annual Report 2018

Maritime traffic safety is a common topic of concern for all countries.As a major shipping country,China needs to pay special attention to maritime transport safety.The MAIB is one of the leading maritime investigation institutions in the world,whose report shares the investigation information with all countries and promotes maritime safety awareness.This translation report takes the translation of nominalization structure in the MAIB Annual Report 2018 as the object and classifies the translation methods.Nominalization structure can improve the information accessibility and objectivity of articles and is often used in English reports.The text type theory is reader-oriented and emophasizes the logical transmission of information.Therefore,under the guidance of Newmark's text type theory,the author mainly uses the conversion method to translate the nominalization structure.According to the habit of Chinese expression,the author divides the translation methods of nominalization structure into seven types:the simple nominalization structure and the compound nominalization structure being translated into the noun phrases;the nominalization structure derived from or transformed from verbs or adjectives into verbs or adjectives;the form of " noun+of+noun " into verb object structure or subject predicate structure;the complex nominalization structure into independent clauses;and the nominalization structure with fixed collocation into four-character idioms.Translation is a process of continuous optimization and requires the translator with professional knowledge and translation skills.According to the types of texts,choosing appropriate translation theories and methods can effectively improve the quality of translation.The author hopes that this report can be used for reference in the translation of nominalization structures in similar texts.
