In the consecutive interpreting,self-repair is a common phenomenon as the interpreter's self-monitoring mechanism continues to operate.Proper self-correction ensures the quality of the translation. However, frequent use of it will cause disfluent production, damage the information transmission, and reduce the audiences' trust. The excessive inappropriate self-repairs directly affect the translator's professional image. Therefore, this thesis presents a case study on the mock conference of President Santos' speech at the 21 stGeneral Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in an attempt to analyze the phenomenon of self-repair and provide some solutions. With detailed examples, the thesis finds that excessive inappropriate self-repairs are mainly caused by reasons for failure in listening and comprehension, quick start of oral production and long sentence and some psychological factors. To address the problems, this article proposes improvement strategies targeted at reducing the inappropriate self-repairs in interpreting including active listening skills, advises for oral production and psychological adjustment.Hopefully, this thesis can offer some insights on the reduction of self-repairs during the learning and practice of Spanish-Chinese consecutive interpretation.
