Notes play an important role in consecutive interpretation.Effective notes can help interpreters mobilize short-term memory, handle the logic and improve the quality of interpretation.Analyzing the transcript of the source language and the author's interpretation, original notes and their corresponding modifications, this thesis takes the speech of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos at the 21 st General Assembly Session of the World Tourism Organization as a study case to discuss the inappropriate note-taking in Spanish-Chinese consecutive interpretation.First of all, combining the previous literature research, the author briefly describes the functions and principles of note-taking in consecutive interpretation,as well as the problems caused by inappropriate note-taking.Secondly,the author reviews the interpretation performance at the mock conference.Thirdly, the author classifies and analyzes the note-taking challenges met in the study case: inappropriate note-taking patterns, use of symbols and handling of information. Finally, coping strategies, such as preparation, effort distribution and note-taking skills, will be discussed.
