The thesis is a translation report that elaborates on my translation practice under the guidance of Katharina Reiss's text typology. The cases are analyzed from the perspective of semantic, grammatical and stylistic elements, focusing on proper names and terminology, polysemy, literal translation, grammatical conversion, stress and cohesion, passive constructions, etc.Summing up,the experience I gain is as follows:Firstly, the translation of informative texts is supposed to prioritize the effective communication and accuracy of information. The translator first preserves semantic equivalence and transmits factual content such as proper nouns and terminology.Secondly, grammatical conversion is necessary to produce a fluent and cohesive translation.Fluent language is free from woodenly literal translation. Finally, the translator would try to conform to usage of the target language and adequately render stylistic features of the source language.A cohesive text has a proper information flow and puts emphasis at the right place. In addition, the translator could use a set of translation toolkits and develop the awareness of teamwork.Practitioners could consult dictionaries or reference books, refer to parallel texts and mobilize Internet resources. The translation team could establish a terminology database or glossary.Proofreading and peer review also play a critical role.Hopefully, the thesis would help enrich translation researches on UNESCO documents, informative texts and translation workflow.I wish the thesis would help with formulating an appropriate translation principle or strategy and establishing a standard procedure.
