The Tang Dynasty of China was the peak period of exchanges between China and Japan.A large number of Japanese sent to the Tang Dynasty to study,so that the Tang Dynasty 's culture was quickly and widely transferred to Japan's politics, society, literature and art and other aspects,Japanese calligraphy was also greatly influenced by Tang Dynasty calligraphy in this period.KuKai,the Japanese monk, was sent to study in Chang'an with the 12 th Tang Mission. His calligraphy was deeply influenced by Tang Dynasty calligraphy, which not only contributed to the dissemination of Tang Dynasty calligraphy, but also played a vital role in the innovation of Japanese calligraphy. Therefore, this paper takes KuKai's calligraphy as the starting point, and then explores the influence of KuKai on Japanese calligraphy,in order to explore the influence of Tang Dynasty calligraphy on Japanese calligraphy from a certain point of view. The first chapter analyzes the development of Japanese calligraphy before KuKai entered the Tang Dynasty.By analyzing the germination of Japanese calligraphy and the development of Japanese calligraphy before KuKai entered the Tang Dynasty,it is not difficult to see that Japanese calligraphy at this time is basically the shadow of Chinese calligraphy, which shows roughly the same characteristics of the times as Chinese calligraphy in the same period. The second chapter is intended to study the calligraphy art of KuKai.The first part analyzes the causes and changes of his calligraphy style through the study of KuKai's lifetime. The second part gives an example of some classical calligraphy works of KuKai,and is divided into Jin and Tang traditional calligraphy and "Flying white calligraphy" and "miscellaneous calligraphy" according to the style. The third part demonstrates the calligraphy view of KuKai,it mainly focuses on two aspects: one is the inheritance and innovation of the main thought of Book Charts by KuKai,the other is his scattered calligraphy thought.Fromthe above three parts,we can see the influence of Tang Dynasty calligraphy on KuKai,as well as his own unique thinking. The third part discusses the influence of KuKai on Japanese calligraphy from four aspects.KuKai brought back the calligraphy materials of Tang Dynasty to Japan, and compiled Zhuan Li Wan Xiang Ming Yii,which supplemented the learning materials of Japanese calligraphy. In addition,KuKai also introduced the style of pen making in Tang Dynasty into Japan, inherited and disseminated the style of writing in Jin and Tang dynasties, and carried forward "miscellaneous calligraphy",all of which promoted the spread of calligraphy in Tang Dynasty and its influence on Japanese calligraphy.
