A Practice Report On Interpreting VOA Political News

Interpretation training is regarded as a crucial process for both skilled interpreters or interpretation learners.Materials used for interpretation training can be presented mainly to include interpretation workbooks,online videos and news websites,each of which renders a positive effect to the improvement of interpretation for learners.News websites such as CGTN,BBC and VOA characterized in diversity and freshness in topics have been an effective way to raise the level of interpretation to a higher level.Having said that,an array of political news being selected from VOA as practice materials for interpretation,this dissertation is deemed as an interpretation practice report with consecutive interpretation,sight translation and simultaneous interpretation involved.The purposes of the dissertation can be divided into two aspects.The first is to discuss how to improve interpretation under the aid of interpretation strategies while the second is to explore a phased and systematic interpretation training model for learners.Apart from the current training models both at home and aboard,the model provided in this dissertation will offer new guidance to English interpretation learners.Case study and induction serve as the research methods of this dissertation.Substantial cases will be given in certain chapters with according translations to fully illustrate how interpretation theories are implemented under different forms of interpretation.Moreover,in the chapter of conclusion after interpretation,general conditions of the interpretation will be analyzed and discussed.Based on previous research,a new interpretation training model will be induced.This dissertation includes five chapters.The first chapter offers a clear introduction to the selected topic,the structure as well as the research method,purpose and significance.The second chapter relates to literature review,namely the Triangle Model of Interpretation School for further analysis with practices and constraint factors of interpretation improvement as the basis for new achievements later on.The third chapter involves pre-interpretation preparation,including the preparations of necessary tools,knowledge as well as a good understanding to VOA news.The fourth chapter is left to be the key part in this dissertation.Chapter four focuses on deep analysis of interpretation strategies in different forms of interpretations with concrete examples and a three-phased interpretation model with detailed explanation.The last chapter remains a conclusion to the whole process of the interpretation and leaves some defects in it and the direction to further research.
