A Report On Stimulated Consecutive Interpretation Under The Guidance Of Interpretive Theory

During the annual "two sessions" in March,Chinese government holds press conferences to answer domestic and international hot issues for the Chinese and foreign media.This event is an important approach for the world to acknowledge about China's politics,economy,diplomacy and culture.This paper is a Chinese-English version of consecutive interpretation practice report,taking foreign minister Wang Yi's answer to questions at the press conference of the 13th National People's Congress in 2018 as the interpretation materials,analyzing the materials under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory.In recent years,more and more scholars and interpreters have begun to study the theory of interpretation,emphasizing its role and significance in interpreting practice.Before the simulation practice,the author searched some background information of the"two sessions" and took the 2017 Government Work Report,the 2018 Government Work Report as indirect parallel texts to accumulate vocabulary for the simulation practice.The regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2017 and foreign minister Wang Yi's answer to questions(2017),these materials were used as the practice texts of this consecutive interpreting activity to cultivate language sense.This paper deals with the original text on the basis of the three stages of interpretive theory--understanding,breaking away from the language shell of the original text and re-expressing it,and analyzes and then make a comparative analysis of the author's translated version and the official translated version with four translation strategies under the interpretive theory,namely corresponding expression,information supplement,abbreviation and omission,and sentence structure reorganization to summarize good parts and parts that need improvement.This paper combines interpretive theory with interpretation practice to verify the feasibility of interpretation theory in interpreting practice of government press conferences.It concludes that key factors affecting the interpreting task include the language level and the non-language level,and these experiences and translation strategies can provide valuable information for interpretation in the future.
