A Report On The Simulated Interpretation Of "Regular Press Conference Of Ministry Of Education At The Fifth Session Of The 12^th National People’s Congress"

With China’s peaceful rising,all of its decisions and changes in the political,economic and educational fields have aroused the world’s attention in recent years.In particular,the "NPC and CPPCC regular press conferences" held annually in our country have attracted many domestic and foreign reporters.However,although interpretation plays a more and more important role in regular press conferences,the number of studies that concentrate on guiding the interpreting practice is still limited.Therefore,the author of the report hopes to share with other interpreters the experience she has gained through her own practice and enable them to get familiar with difficulties and key points of related press conferences and master the relevant interpreting methods and techniques as as to improve interpretation quality.The report reviews the entire preparation and the interpretation process,which takes the regular press conference of the Minister of Education held during the Fifth Session of the 12th National People’s Congress on March 12,2017 as the simulated interpretation material.The whole report is composed of five chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the interpreting task in which the author analyses the background information,features and objectives of the simulated interpretation.The second chapter describes the preparation,implementation process and the specific quality assessment methods of the simulated interpretation.The third chapter introduces the development,main point of view and applicability of functional equivalence theory in this practice.The forth chapter is a concrete case analysis.In the former part,the author divides interpreting problems and difficulties into varied levels,including syntactic level,lexical level as well as rhetorical level.Aiming at these problems and difficulties,the interpreting methods,techniques and effects under the guidance of functional equivalence theory are discussed in the latter part.The last chapter is the overall review of the report,including summary,reflection as well as implication.Through the simulated interpretation,the author has deepened her understanding of conference alternative interpretation about following points:1.The word-to-word translation method is mainly suitable for vocabulary interpretation;2.Literal and liberal translation methods often need to match interpretation techniques,including conversion,addition,omission,simplification,restructuring and paraphrasing so as to achieve the appropriate interpretation purposes.
