Due to its rapid development,China has become increasingly interconnected with the world.Sports events, along the process, have played a more and more important role in strengthening mutual learning and understanding.Zhengzhou has hosted a variety of international sports events, which has achieved fruitful results in shaping the city’s image and telling resonating Chinese stories. In these events, interpretation has played an indispensable role in promoting the management of these events. In Sept.2019,the Zhengzhou Open, one of the WTA premier level tennis tournaments, was held here. This report is derived from the interpreting practices at the press conference of this tournament.Based on the three rules, namely rules of Skopos, fidelity and coherence,in Skopos Theory, the report believes that the three principles could effectively guide the interpreting task.By discussing and analyzing interpreting cases and difficulties emerged throughout the task,it is easy to conclude that the three principles have effectively facilitated the interpreting task. There are four chapters in this report. The first chapter is task description which describes the background, the basic information and the case selection of the report. In the second chapter,it is the process description that details every stage of the task. The third chapter is the main part of the report. This chapter illustrates how some interpreting strategies have worked under the three principles. In addition, this chapter also discusses some on-site difficulties in the task that also reflect these principles. The last chapter is the summary of reflections on the task and the future developments of sports interpreting.
