Research On Strategies In Consecutive Interpretation From The Perspective Of The Skopos Theory

With the rapid growth of economic strength and increasingly renowned international status, China receives more and more attention from the whole world. In the aspects related to the political tendency and diplomatic relations, China plays a more and more important role. Government’s press conference is an effective form of publicity, because the media are able to deliver timely political stand and other policies to the mass. Interpreting activities on the press are increasingly eye-catching as well, which is a kind of cross-cultural communication by the expressing in another language through interpreters’ perception and understanding. Compared with the translating, interpreting has a higher flexibility and immediacy. Interpreters not only require abundant background knowledge and strong impromptu resilience, but also a variety of interpretation skills and strategies to convert the source language to target language quickly and accurately.The Skopos theory put forward by German Functionalist School views that the highest law of translation practice is the "Skopos rule". In other words, the purpose of translation is different, and the translation method and strategies employed are also different. The purpose of translation determines the strategies and methods of translation. Translation strategies related to "Three Rules" of the Skopos theory are widely used in the practice of interpreting, playing a very important role in directing interpreting practice and improving the quality of interpretation.In this thesis, the Joint Press Conference between China and America in Beijing in 2012 is taken as an example, along with the sample sentences in this conference interpretation to investigate the press conference interpretation strategies guided by "Three Rules" of the Skopos theory. Through this practice, the author has obtained profound understanding of guidance value of the Skopos theory and its "Three Rules", realizing the vital role of various interpretation strategies in a smooth live interpretation and understood that being a qualified interpreter is not easy:in addition to the high professional quality, outstanding reaction capability and excellent psychological quality, a wide variety of other self-abilities are also required.
