Each of the volunteer Chinese teachers to Thailand needs to to go through the process of acculturation when carrying out teaching activities abroad for one year or more.It’s worth noting that the volunteers learn how to adapt to the local culture of Thailand while maintaining the core of Chinese culture.It is not a natural process for all people to accept and adapt to different cultures.Slight differences exists therein.And both internal and external factors exert an impact on cultural adaptation.Based on the reading of the related literature,we realized that the investigations and studies on intercultural adaptation that take the Chinese teachers to Thailand for the first time as the research object fail to update in a timely and comprehensive manner.Hence,around the cross-cultural adaptation,we made outline questionnaires and interviews.Beginning with the analysis of the questionnaire and interview,this paper discussed the cross-cultural adaptation of the Chinese teachers to Thailand for the first time.This paper is divided into three main parts: questionnaire and analysis of results,interview results and analysis,analysis of factors affecting the teachers’ cross-cultural adaptation and corresponding suggestions.Through a series of investigations and researches,we can see that the Chinese teachers who come to Thailand for the first time enjoy desirable adaptation in interpersonal communication and life.And the main cross-cultural adaptation problems are centered on their work,such as the maintenance of classroom records and communication with local teachers in Thailand.The factors that influence cross-cultural adaptation are divided into internal factors,external factors,and the continuous dynamic influence of cross-cultural adaptation experience on the respondents.The internal factors include personality factors,knowledge and skills,personal expectations,ethnocentrism,prejudice and discrimination,etc.External factors include cultural distance,social support,local environment and other objectivereasons from a macro perspective.Based on the analysis of interviews,suggestions are put forward from three perspectives,namely,teachers,dispatching units and receiving units.
