A Report On Translation Of Petroleum Engineering English (Excerpted) From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

With the flourish of petroleum energy technology and industry,a large number of petroleum engineering documents have appeared.As a specialized field,petroleum engineering translation should not only consider the accuracy of language and cultural connotation,but also the effective information transmission and the acceptability of target language readers.The research on the translation of petroleum technology literature from linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension expands the translation of foundation and is of great significance for translating similar texts.Based on the feature analysis of the source texts,this study applies the eco-translatology to the translation practice of petroleum engineering texts.Appropriate translation solutions are worked out to the problems on lexical level,syntactic level and discourse level,which are summarized and analyzed in the translation report aiming to provide reference for further studies on translation of similar texts.The author holds that translation of petroleum engineering texts shall follow dimensions of linguistic,cultural and communicative under the eco-translatology.Specifically,on lexical level,omission and simplification are suggested to translate technical terms,acronym and metaphorical words.On syntactic level,sentences with no subject is adopted to translate passive sentences,noun phrases and long sentences.On discourse level,from the communicative dimension,accurate and valid reproduction of the contextual logic are of prime importance in dealing with the contents with logic.
