In recent years,in the era of economic globalization, the competition among major shipping companies in the world has become increasingly fierce, with excess capacity and falling freight rates, and shipping companies have faced severe tests.Learning from history, understanding and studying the development history of the world's major shipping companies have important significance for the development of shipping companies at present. The translation practice report is on the basis of the translation practice of A Hundred Year History of the P&O(1837-193 7),this text belongs to historical documentary, with long sentences and complex grammatical structure. Methods of cutting, embedding, voice conversion, recasting and splitting are respectively adopted in the translation of English long sentences.Maritime English long sentence translation is a big difficulty in the field of translation, because of its long sentences, composition, coupled with the professionalism of the maritime English. On this basis, the most representative English long sentences are selected and the translation methods of English long sentences are summarized and analyzed from the perspective of Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory. The conclusions of this translation practice report are as follows:The translation methods of English long sentences are flexible and diversified. In the process of translation, comprehensive application is usually required, among which the most basic translation methods are cutting and embedding.Cutting is mainly applicable to long English sentences with many parallel elements and clauses. For English sentences containing post-modifiers,not too long, the post-modifiers should be placed in front of the main word in translation.Voice conversion is a translation method based on the differences between English and Chinese.Under the premise of grasping the meaning of the whole sentence, the recasting method is used to adjust the word order and then translate. The method of splitting is to remove adjectives, adverbs, parenthesis or clauses from the original sentence and place them at the beginning or end of the sentence for separate translation. Therefore, the translation methods summarized in this practice report have certain reference significance for the translation of English long sentences and maritime related texts.
