Maritime English belongs to English for Specific Purpose(ESP),which not only has the commonness of English but its own linguistic features.The report is based on the sixth topic of the ninety-eighth session of the Maritime Safety Committee,Goal Based New Ship Construction Standards(GBS).This text is official document,and its sentence structure is complex and lengthy.It is found that there are many long sentences in the selected text in the process of translation.According to the statistics of the International Maritime Convention(IMC),the average sentence of IMC is 37.22 words.Therefore,the author supposes that the sentence of 37 words or more is English long sentence and finds that in the ten thousand word translation material,it appears ninety times.In the process of translation,the author follows the Skopos theory and uses translation methods including sequential translation,reversing translation,embedding translation,cutting translation,splitting translation,inserting translation and recasting translation to analyze and translate the selected text.The author sums up the translation methods of Maritime English long sentences and hopes to make contribution to the Maritime English translation.
