An interpreter's performance is the result of their consideration of the requirements of all involved parties. The quality of their performance is a product of the various participants in this activity, the working environment, and even the social and cultural contexts. Therefore,it is appropriate to use descriptive research methods for interpreting assessment research, rather than looking for abstract standards of quality.Wang(2013)put forward a comprehensive and systematic assessment model supported by a cross-validation of studies on assessment parameters,a variety of factors involved in interpretation activities and a descriptive study of norms in interpreting. Therefore,in this case study, the author adopts Wang Binhua's interpreting assessment model based on norms in interpreting as the analytical framework. Then segments taken out of their interpretation are analyzed through two lenses:the relation between source and target texts and the integrity of the target language itself,to reveal some of the common errors and failures.Key issues with source/target texts relations include lack of coherence in meaning, incomplete information and inaccuracy with terms, while expressing in the target language is fraught with communication malfunctions and messy linguistic forms. The thesis concludes with an examination into the causes to these various problems and recommendations to address them.
