Compared with speeches with texts, impromptu speeches always bring problems to interpreters such as ambiguity, lack of logic or wrong logic, wrong words, mixed sentence pattern and repetition, thus influencing interpreters'performances. The author chooses Interpretive Theory which emphasizes the equivalent of the sense instead of the equivalent of the language as the theoretical foundation of the thesis to carry out studies on Chinese-English(C-E)simultaneous interpreting of impromptu speeches. The author proposes four coping strategies for C-E simultaneous interpreting of impromptu speeches including deverbalization, information supplementation and omission, logic restructuring and explanatory interpreting. In order to find out whether the four strategies are effective, the author carries out an experiment whose hypothesis is:the more strategies the interpreter uses, the better the performance will be.In the experiment, six student interpreters are invited to do C-E simultaneous interpreting of an impromptu speech. After the experiment, the author transcribes the experiment result and carries out quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis on the transcript. The final conclusion is that there is positive correlation between the usage of the strategies and the quality of the interpretation.Through the analysis, the author wants to offer some strategies to interpreters especially student interpreters in the field of C-E simultaneous interpreting of impromptu speeches, therefore helping them perform better.
