A Report E-C Stimulated Consecutive Interpreting Fom The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

This report is on E-C consecutive interpreting from the perspective of the Interpretive theory.The author has chosen the video of Darrell West's book launch of The Future of Work:Robots,AI,and Automation as the material.The video is mainly about the development of robots,AI and automation and the influence on people's jobs.The author has picked up this theme for it is a heated topic in recent years and frequently discussed for the uncertainty of its impact on people's life and is thus worth studying.The report contains four chapters.The first chapter introduces the speaker,the content of the speech,the theory applied by the interpreter,along with the feasibility and the significance of the project.The second chapter includes preparations before doing the project,including preparing for the topic and also the glossary.The third chapter elaborates the difficulties in the interpretation.And the fourth one is about solutions.The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the report.The core part of this report is the discussion about the difficulties encountered by the interpreter and the analysis of the solutions and examples.The difficulties include incomplete sentences,redundancy in the source material,long sentences and situations when literal translation is improper.And the interpreter has some solutions in the spirit of the Interpretive Theory.Strategies like addition,omission,syntactic linearity strategy and segmentation of long sentences based on semantic units,along with conversion and free translation have been discussed.These strategies help to have a better outcome of interpretation.This report combines theory and practice,which helps the interpreter accumulate more experience in interpretation will benefit the future career.This report as a learning material,will benefit interpreters who come across projects on AI and automation.
