Qiao-nu's Story Morphology And Identity Construction

The Chinese Qiao-nu Folktale is based on the heroine's ability to solve problems and pass tests by virtue of intelligence,quality,skills and adaptability.It has shaped the outstanding female image with "Qiao" as a prominent personality highly appreciated by Chinese civil society.As a classic image inherited from generation to generation in Chinese folktales,Qiao-nu combines excellent qualities such as morality,loyalty,filial piety,wisdom,and talent."Qiao" has gradually become a comprehensive and standard feminine trait,and it is consistent with the "Gentleman personality" advocated by Confucianism.The story of Qiao-nu was first seen in the "Wife of the Bowman" recorded in "Hanshiwaizhuan" in the Han Dynasty,which shaped the image of a "wise wife" who solved problems for his husband and won the appreciation of King Qi.The Chinese Qiao-nu Folktale has a huge number of texts,which are widely spread in different regions and ethnic groups in China.Such as Mongolian,Manchu,Hui,Uygur,Korean,Daur,Kirgiz,Tatar,Kazakh,Tajik,Tibetan,Zhuang,Tujia,Miao,Yi,She,Baoan,Dong,Yao,Buyi Minorities,Pumi,Li,Bai,and other minorities have spread.Qiao-nu Folktale has been inherited for more than 2,000 years,and it embodies the social concepts and female ideal qualities contained in the traditional Chinese culture,which deserves in-depth study.The thesis takes Qiao-nu Folktale as the research object,and uses methods such as story typology,identity theory and feminist criticism to examine the rich forms of Qiao-nu Folktales from the two dimensions of historical inheritance and type structure,and delve into Qiao-nu motif connotation in the treasure trove of Chinese folk stories,looking back the problem of the identity construction of Qiao-nu,thinking about the inherent logical relationship between Qiao-nu and Chinese culture,in order to realize the Chinese value and cultural influence of Qiao-nu.The thesis is divided into three parts,including five chapters:The first part is an introduction,which mainly introduces the significance of the topic and the research content,academic history,research methods,difficulties and innovations.The second part is the main part,mainly including four chapters:The first chapter,"The Historical Origins of Qiao-nu Folktale",examines the historical origins and historical forms of some Qiao-nu Folktales from the Han and Wei Dynasties to modern China.The charm of Qiao-nu Folktale is inseparable from the core of the story:"solving difficulties" and "wisdom battle",moreover,"Celebrity legend type" and "Family ethics type" as the mainstream of ancient Qiao-nu Folktales,promoted the widespread spread and new changes of Qiao-nu Folktales;the second chapter,"TheEvolution Characteristics of Qiao-nu Folktale",summarizes the evolution characteristics of Qiao-nu Folktales from a variety of story groups,focusing on the generation and development of Qiao-nu Folktale.Qiao-nu comes from virgins and virtuous women,what's more,the core and language of the stories of Qiao-nu gradually point to the daily life of the people,highlighting the wisdom of smart daughter-in-law's life under the practice of family ethics.What remains unchanged is that Qiao-nu always practiced"Qiao" and displayed "Qiao" around the two main lines of "solving difficulties" and"wisdom battle";the third chapter,"the Main Types of Qiao-nu Folktale" is based on Qiao-nu's core elements,"wisdom","quality","eloquence",and "skillful hands",starting from the storyline where Qiao-nu practice "Qiao" and show "Qiao",the main types of stories are studied around the motif of Qiao-nu cracking puzzles and passing tests;the fourth chapter,"The Identity Construction and Contemporary Value of Qiao-nu",studies the practice path of the other construction and self-construction of Qiao-nu's identity.The fourth chapter takes an objective view of its significance and limitations in society,family,and women,further discusses the possible and outstanding value of the contemporary smart girls' practice,continues the "tradition" that is conducive to contemporary life,attempts to modernize the transformation of resources,and shares smart girls wisdom.The third part is the conclusion,summarizing the main content of the full text,looking forward to the contemporary significance of the image of Qiao-nu,and providing representative cases for the creative transformation and innovative development of traditional Chinese culture.
