With the development of economic globalization, simultaneous interpreting is widely used in international conferences and public speeches due to its high efficiency and timesaving. In the practice of simultaneous interpreting,it is a basis for judging the quality of interpretation whether the interpreter can fluently produce target language that is easy for the listeners to understand.Pause is an important factor that hinders the production of fluent target language.Improper pauses in simultaneous interpreting generally occur in the output link of the target language, which are manifested as filled pauses and silent pauses.Frequent improper pauses will affect the fluency of the target language and reduce the completion of the interpretation. The thesis is based on simulated simultaneous interpreting of Rizhao Development Conference in 2019.The thesis analyzes the causes of improper pauses in the practice of simultaneous interpreting, and then proposes corresponding strategies to the phenomenons of improper pauses.By means of preparation before interpretation, effective anticipation, syntactic linearity, adjustment of the speech flow speed and use of vague expression, the interpreting ability can be enhanced to reduce the number of improper pauses and improve the fluency of interpretation. To conduct such an interpreting practice is of constructive significance to some extent. The interpreter summarizes the features of improper pauses in simultaneous interpreting, and puts forward some suggestions that might help to solve practical problems for interpreting practice. The interpreting of such kind of speech could provide useful reference for interpreting learners and the interpreter herself can practice her interpreting skills and improve interpreting performance in the future.
