Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH),as an indispensable part of world cultural diversities,represents the wisdom of our ancestors and is the manifestation of the ever-lasting spiritual homeland for mankind.Boasting a long history and rich varieties,textile ICH constitutes an important part of China's Intangible Cultural Heritage.Its own unique culture has also attracted more and more attention at home and abroad.The author aims at making more people acquire an understanding of textile ICH,and thus truly realizes the significance and urgency of protecting cultural heritage.This practice report,according to Gile's Interpreting Model of consecutive interpreting,tries to identify failures in the process of simulated C-E consecutive interpreting on the First China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference and their causes and proposes coping strategies from the perspective of effort allocation.Gile's Effort Model theory explains in details all efforts involved during the process and their interactions and distributions,and further put forward inequalities in Effort Model on consecutive interpreting.This theory visually displays the connections between each effort and distribution and interpreters' capability,which is of strong guiding significance for the research of consecutive interpreting.The author divides the main types of interpreting failures through the analysis of the problems occurring in the process,including the translation of culture-specific items,information missing,misinterpretation,no logical relationship between sentences,broken sentences as well as improper pauses.It is found that the causes are inadequate extra-linguistic knowledge and linguistic knowledge,problematic notes and the absence of coordination effort.As such,responding coping strategies are put forward including the accumulation of linguistic knowledge and extra-linguistic knowledge,improvement on note-taking,short-term memory enhancement,coordination of note-taking and short-term memory as well as production self-monitoring in reformulation.It is hoped that these coping strategies proposed in this report will be useful for interpreters undertaking similar interpreting tasks in the future.
